May 2019

Each year at Kips Bay in NYC, celebrated interior designs are invited to transform a room in a show house and this year I’m thrilled that my bronze sculpture ‘Ophelia’ commissioned by Simon Orrell Designs has been showcased by Richard Rabel in his stunning design for the Gallery Entry and Lower grand Staircase. See the image on my instagram!

Also this week I have been invited to hold workshops at a school nearby working with the pupils to create small bas relief plaques! Am excited and naturally nervous about this! Its amazing how much planning is needed when undertaking such events. I’m really looking forward to seeing where their imagination takes them!

Am currently working on ideas for a commission for a panel and enjoying the process. Images to follow in the future. In the meantime here’s one of the newest works fired and glazed!

March 2019

The Serenade

Recently I’ve discovered that there are a number of my fantastical pieces in the collection of the WMODA Weiner Museum of Decorative Arts in Florida. http://wmoda.com There is an exhibition on at the moment there until June 28th called Fantastique where there are a number on display. It has come as a complete surprise and needless to say I am thrilled to be alongside some of the ceramic greats the likes of William de Morgan and Daisy Makeig Jones! The pieces include this one called Serenade a finely carved bas relief.

I shall be exhibiting some recent pieces here in Norwich in April 24th –28th at the Forum in the Spring Art show pop along if you get the chance.

February 2019

2019 commissions

This year has started with 3 commissions all now either drying, being carved or samples being created and the go ahead given! Images will follow in due course…

In between these I am finally starting on carving a new body of work more experimental and abstract whilst still maintaining the fine skills – and with the assistance of a magnifying glass! Designing patterns as a base then abstracting them the attached image is one such.

December Update

Water Buffalo

While I am continuing to develop ideas and draw also had a bit of a tidy out of the workshop – do all artists hoard stuff or am I alone? On finding old pieces I was not entirely convinced of hence just heaping them in dark corners with  able assistance the hammer came out as you can see from the photo!!!

I still have some lovely pieces properly stored ready for new homes 3 of which are wending their way across the Atlantic.

November Update

Water Buffalo

Have been busy recently with drawing and designing new pieces. I’ve really appreciated taking a little time to develop ideas and hopefully progress the work. I have been life drawing daily which has been fantastic and inspiring and brushes up on the old pencil skills! Hoping to start making again and experimenting further with the designs in clay! In the meantime I shall leave you with a close up image of a piece I made earlier this year of Water Buffalo, a finely carved plaque measuring 35cm square.

September Update

Zues

After a successful Art in Clay – a huge thank you to the organisers! – I have had a little time off to recuperate and now about to get back to the drawing board with the ideas for new work that keep appearing in my minds eye! While there are a few lovely pieces still awaiting new homes this framed bas relief plaque has found a new owner.

July Update 2

Reclining Naiad

This week has been spent glazing the two commissions I’ve made waiting for the extreme heat to die down a bit before the kiln goes on!

The sculpture for Bonhams fired well and they have received it intact thank you MBE! so now just waiting for the images to be given the ok to be published which is usually a few weeks before the sale – this year the 9th and 10th October at the Knightsbridge galleries!

Been working on a few pieces for Simon Orrell Designs too, a piece destined to be turned into bronze and a lamp base design a close up of which is the image alongside. Its inspired by a desert rose those amazing crystal formations.

July Update

Reclining Naiad

Its been a busy few weeks I have been asked by Bonhams to make a piece for their October sale so have worked hard designing and making what will hopefully prove a show stopper! As yet I cannot share details but keep an eye out over the next couple of months!

Two lovely commissions have also been undertaken and now waiting on them to dry ready for firing -won’t take too long given the glorious weather we’ve been having! Images again to follow in due course!

I'm including a pic of a little figurative sculpture that is kiln fresh a reclining naiad ready for exhibiting at Art in Clay next month!

June Update

The last couple of weeks have seen me working on new designs for commissions of which more news will follow soon! I have had images back from a sculpture I made in ceramic for Simon Orrell Designs that they have turned into a limited edition of 20 bronzes and I am really happy with the result!

May Update

These last couple of weeks have been busy getting work ready for Art in Clay plus working on a couple of commissions that have come in for decorative plaques. Much glazing and firing has been happening alongside and although the image doesn’t necessarily show there are some experiment glazes on a few of these hoping they work out!!!!
